Paul grew up in Sidcup, Kent. He studied at St Martin's School of Art, London, 1970-71 and then at Kingston upon Hull Regional College of Art (1972-75) where he gained a BA (Hons) Fine Art.

Paul is now based on the Morecambe Bay coast, overlooking the River Kent estuary, which has been a source of ideas for his abstract paintings, drawings and landart and other projects.

Paul is a member of Green Door Studios, Kendal, Cumbria - an artist-run co-operative.
