FRED07 project - Full Circle

FRED - the annual art invasion of Cumbria is happening again this year.

From the 26th September - 12th October 2008, artists from around the globe will be creating new work in some of England's most spectacular landscapes in what has become Europe's largest annual festival of site-specific art.

Mock-up of the installation at dusk

Richard Light and Paul Clark are installing a circle of light on the estuary sands at Blackstone Point that will be visible from before sunset until after dark.

The circle will be extinguished by the incoming tide. Lamps will be placed on the mud to form an ellipse 80 metres long and 10 metres wide.

From the cliff-top viewpoint on the edge of Frith Wood, the ellipse will appear as a circle of light, visible between 6pm and 8.30pm approximately when the lamps will be extinguished by the incoming tide.

Please note: Visitors are advised to bring torches and care should be taken whilst walking over uneven ground to and from the viewing area. Lights will be in place to guide people through the wood after dark.
